Tourism Lecturer & Researcher
Muslim Friendly Tourism Specialist & PhD Candidate, University of Dundee, UK
I am a tourism lecturer, Muslim-friendly tourism researcher, and published author dedicated to one belief: a better tourism starts with better education. My academic work focuses on Muslim-friendly tourism, Muslim tourist behaviour, and the intersection of faith, travel, and destination development.

I am Siska Mandalia, a tourism lecturer and tourism geography researcher currently pursuing my PhD at the University of Dundee, Scotland, UK. My academic journey spans Indonesia and the United Kingdom, grounded in a conviction that tourism scholarship must reflect the full diversity of the world's travellers — including the 1.8 billion Muslims who travel with faith as part of their journey.
"A better tourism starts with better education."
My research sits at the intersection of Muslim tourist behaviour, destination competitiveness, and tourism development. I investigate how destinations can authentically accommodate Muslim travellers — not as an afterthought, but as a genuine expression of inclusive tourism policy and practice.
As a Muslim Friendly Tourism Specialist, I bring both scholarly rigour and lived experience to my work. I have taught tourism management, conducted research across Southeast Asia and Europe, and authored the book Muslim Tourist Behaviour — one of the first Indonesian-language academic texts dedicated entirely to understanding the Muslim travel market.
Beyond the lecture theatre and library, I share my academic life and research insights with a growing community of tourism students, educators, and industry professionals through my digital platforms, where I believe knowledge should be accessible, motivating, and deeply human.
My scholarship addresses some of the most urgent and underexplored questions in contemporary tourism studies.
This book is the first comprehensive Indonesian-language academic text dedicated to understanding Muslim tourist behaviour — how faith, cultural identity, and religious values shape travel decisions, destination choice, and tourism experiences.
Written for students, researchers, tourism practitioners, and destination planners, it provides both a theoretical framework and practical insights into the rapidly growing Islamic tourism and halal travel market — projected to be one of the most significant segments in global tourism.
